A Message from Dr. Brad Brady, SEJ Conference Secretary
Many people have been at work for some time to plan the 2012 SEJ Conference. We are praying for and working toward a spiritually exciting conference. I have a wonderful team of creative and committed persons helping plan for Jurisdictional Conference. You can find their names and areas of responsibility here.
We plan to communicate often with delegation leaders and delegates to keep everyone informed about our plans and details. Please look to the jurisdictional website (www.sejumc.org/jurisdictional-conference) for current information.
Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have.
Shalom,
Dr. Brad Brady

About
The United Methodist Church was created in 1968 by a merger of the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist churches. Methodists elected their bishops at one national gathering until 1940, when the jurisdictional system was instituted. Bishops in the EUB church were elected at one national gathering until 1968.
A Jurisdictional Conference happens every 4 years primarily to elect Bishops. The conference also has the powers and duties:
To promote the evangelistic, educational, missionary and benevolent interests of the church and to provide for interests and institutions within their boundaries;
To establish and constitute jurisdictional conference boards as auxiliaries to the general boards of the church;
To determine the boundaries of Annual Conferences;
To make rules and regulations for the administration of the church's work within the Jurisdiction;
To appoint a committee on appeals.
